As ERCOT calls for voluntary conservation efforts due to expected high energy demand, ask—why isn’t the real message focused on practical solutions rather than misguided ones? Instead of drastically heating spaces in the winter and cooling big-box stores down to 60°F in the summer, why not address the real issue?
Covering vast stretches of land with solar panels is not the answer to reducing heat islands—trees and vegetation do that! How is covering our land with solar panels going to achieve that end? The relentless expansion of solar farms is not conserving anything; it is contributing to the high demand problem. Disconnecting the "point of interconnection" for solar panels would be a truly conservational step. If you are looking for genuine conservation strategies, start with the root cause: solar farms creating strain on the grid, while Texas residents continue to shoulder outrageous electricity rates. To ERCOT, the solar farms are more important than Texas residents’ comfort.
