Franklin County Airport - Industrial Solar Issues

Published on 23 July 2024 at 10:46

Here’s a map from our county tax office showing the Franklin County Airport.  The county sports complex lies just north of the airport.

Our county has spent literally millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to get these improvements in place for our public.

Now a solar developer has leased a huge block of land lying along the flight path of our airport for solar panel placement AND a battery storage facility.  The solar lease covers lands in the Moore, Lewis, Pope, Binion, and Bryorly Surveys (designated as A-34, 57, 291, 310 and 591 on map).  The BESS is closer to the airport.

Who is protecting pilots from glare, radio frequency, air turbulence and whatever other problems we face with this new industry?  Who pays for road damage for the construction which does NOT benefit local citizens?  Who pays for the erosion and bridge repair following the enhanced watershed off these panels?  Tell our commissioners not to give any road agreement for this development.  The current name is under an LLC called Lazy Frog.  We can tell you these aren’t Texans, but, they sure want the benefit of tax benefits paid by Texas taxpayers and Texas ratepayers.

Oncor wants to build more transmission lines to send this power to Dallas.  Texas ratepayers will cover the increased expense to build the transmission lines.

Solar is not reliable, nor dispatchable.  And there is nothing cheap about solar and wind.  The wind may blow and the sun’s rays are free but to build these facilities, we put a huge burden on our planet – coal power to fabricate the steel and glass and battery systems with destruction of our environment and untold consequences on the natural world and mankind to allow profit for a few.  Move on to nuclear and use our abundant clean natural gas.  Put these panels on rooftops and parking lot canopies.  Say no to industrial solar in Franklin County, Texas.
